The Choirs – the primary role of any Church choir is to lead the congregation’s singing of the hymns and liturgy, and Salem’s choirs are no different. In addition to this vital role, they also provide additional music at various points in the service.
• The Early Risers Choir provides music for the 8:00 am LBW service, and rehearses on Sunday mornings at 7:30 am.
• The Senior Choir sings primarily at the 10:30 am ELW service and rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
• Glory Bound, the musicians who lead the Contemporary Worship Service, rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
• A new Youth Choir for middle and high school students is being organized and will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, September 7th.
• The Chime Choir provides occasional music for the 8:00 am and 10:30 am services and rehearses on Wednesday nights from 6:15 - 7:00 pm.
• While not a choir per se, the Hälau Hula O Kaleooka'iwa, or “Hula School of Kaleooka'iwa” meets at Salem on Monday and Thursday nights at 7:00 pm, and provides both musical and dance offerings for the Nu ‘Oli Hawaiian Worship Service.
• For the celebration of Christmas, the special Christmas Choir is organized and traditionally prepares a cantata which is presented on a Sunday in December and also sings on Christmas Eve. In a similar fashion, an Easter Choir is organized for Holy Week and Easter. These choirs draw on the musical talents of all the regular choirs as well as some who join just these special choirs, and as such represent an opportunity to be involved in a significant group singing experience without the long-term commitment of being part of the other choirs.
