VISION: To be a dynamic congregation of disciples proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all.

MISSION: To Glorify God in all that we do, reflecting His Love to our community and the world.

CRITICAL TARGETS:

I. DISCIPLESHIP
To provide opportunities for our members to grow in their faith and to take on active roles in the life of the church. To create new leaders within the church and to increase our presence in the spiritual life of our community.

OUTCOMES for 2009

I. A. We finance 100% of our budgeted income for 2009.

I. B. One hundred Salem members make a commitment to impact others at their workplace, school, and/or community through acts of Christian compassion or witness.

I. C. One hundred confirmed members are enrolled in a home devotional program.

II. ASSIMILATION
To nurture and support each other as we integrate new members into the congregation, providing a welcoming worship experience with opportunities for fellowship. To reach out to inactive members and visitors so that they are encouraged to join us in discipleship.

OUTCOMES for 2009

II. A. Average Sunday attendance is increased by 5% over the 2008 average (217).

II. B. Three new fellowship experiences are provided this year that provide opportunities for building relationships within the congregation.

III. SERVICE
“The church is the church only when it exists for others…” says Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We reflect God’s love when we serve others. This encompasses our everyday actions as well as our more organized efforts.

OUTCOMES for 2009

III. A. One new mission service project is initiated in 2009.

III. B. One new special emphasis offering is collected.

III .C. One new community event is held that will impact the needs or recognize the services of the local area.

IV. HEART
To provide all the resources necessary to meet the vision for the ministry of the Gospel by Salem Lutheran Church. This includes faith, hope, love, courage, compassion, and the commitment of time, talents, and treasures by the people of God.

OUTCOMES for 2009

IV. A. A specific action plan for facility improvement is in place with a timeline for completion.

IV. B. Quarterly updates are provided regarding progress, anticipated commitments and cost, and opportunities for congregational involvement.

Our Worship and Learning Opportunities

8:00 am - A liturgical service based on the Lutheran Book of Worship hymnal (1977)

9:15 am - Contemporary Service

9:15 am - Christian Education for all ages

10:30 am - A liturgical service based on the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal (2006)

7:00 pm, 1st Monday of the month - "Nu Oli", a Hawaiian Worship Service

Holy Communion is celebrated at every service.


Mid-Week Lenten Services - Luther's Small Catechism

The theme for our Mid-Week Lenten Services for 2010 is Luther’s Small Catechism.  A light dinner will also be served starting at  

Feb. 17 – 12:00 pm and 7:00 p.m. – Ash Wednesday
Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion

Feb. 24 – 7:00 pm – The Ten Commandments

March 3 – 7:00 pm – The Apostles’ Creed

March 10 – 7:00 pm – The Lord’s Prayer

March 17 – 7:00 pm – Holy Baptism

March 24 – 7:00 pm – The Sacrament of the Altar
